A luxurious Chinese casino is using the Canadian justice system to chase down a big spender from B.C. who allegedly left a nearly half-million-dollar gambling debt behind in Macau.

Melco Crown Gaming, which operates the City of Dreams casino, filed documents in B.C. Supreme Court Tuesday claiming Vancouver man Zong Song Li owes more than $445,000.

The company says it was left on the hook last August after crediting Li $3.6-million Hong Kong dollars worth of casino chips in exchange for a cheque that later bounced – twice.

The documents, prepared by Vancouver law firm Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, say Li has been "unjustly enriched" and should repay his debt in full, with interest.

The City of Dreams, which contains a 420,000 square-foot "mega-casino," opened in June 2009.
