A Kelowna, B.C. man has been charged with sexually assaulting a child and making and distributing child pornography.

The RCMP say 39-year-old Brian Leslie Burton is also accused of interference with a person under 16, counselling a person under 16 to touch another person and possessing child porn.

Police say Burton recently moved to Kelowna from Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.

They say they were tipped off by Mounties in Saskatchewan that a person who was distributing child porn over the Internet might also be actively abusing a child.

The RCMP searched Burton's home last month and seized a computer and several data storage devices.

Police say the investigation led to the identification of a young child victim who is now safe, but they aren't releasing any other information to protect the identity of the child and the child's family.
