Two men from British Columbia are facing charges related to an alleged sexual assault in Nova Scotia.

Garry Peak, 32, and James Hanson, both from Prince George, B.C., are each charged with aggravated sexual assault and forcible confinement.

Const. Paul Palmeter of Halifax Regional Police said the two men met two women at a bar in downtown Halifax before heading to a hotel in nearby Dartmouth.

"After a very brief period of time, one of the females wanted to leave," Palmeter said in an interview. "She ended up in an argument with the other (older) female."

The officer said the older female allegedly assaulted the younger woman.

"I don't know why they were arguing," he said.

One of the men allegedly prevented the younger woman from leaving, but she eventually escaped and called for help, Palmeter said.

The older woman later told police the two men had assaulted her in the hotel room.

The two men were arrested Sunday and appeared in court Monday.

Hanson is also charged with assault causing bodily harm and the forcible confinement of the younger woman.

"It's a very strange and different type of incident," Palmeter said.
