Another 100 people from the Tamil migrant ship are slated for detention hearings today as authorities continue trying to establish their identities.
Seventy-eight people who had their hearings before the Immigration and Refugee Board in B-C yesterday were ordered to stay in custody.
A Canada Border Service Agency lawyer says all 492 migrants who arrived near Victoria last week have sat down for brief interviews.
The agency has brought in extra staff to help process the claimants, and photographing and fingerprinting has also begun.
The I-R-B says the hearings are in the public interest, so reporters have been granted access.
However, the migrants' names, ages, places of birth and other identifying details can not be reported.
