Visitors to Grouse Mountain were in for a treat Monday, when one of the most recognizable figure skating stars in the world paid a visit to the peak of Vancouver.

Olympic gold medalist Katarina Witt was visiting as a sports analyst for Germany's Olympic broadcaster ARD.

"It was fun today being up in the mountain just for playing around, but I never go just for fun because it has been my career and when I go out on the ice I want to skate at a high level," she said, after a few twirls on the ice rink at the resort.

Now 43, she is preparing to share her love and knowledge of her sport. She and her crew are here to show off Vancouver to the folks back home.

"Showing the German people what Vancouver is about, not just the venue it's more than that and of course we go to Grouse Mountain to show one of the most popular ski areas Vancouver gets," she said.

Her program will air around the one-year countdown to the start of the Games.

This is the sort of free advertising the Olympics is already bringing to Vancouver.
