Trudy and Gary have lived a fiercely independent life in North Vancouver -- despite their cerebral palsy -- but their confidence was shattered along with a window early Saturday morning.

Their Parkgate home of 10 years was vandalized when someone threw a stone the size of a fist through the window.

"I thought it was him that had fallen or something, and then he said, ‘No, look at the window.' My God -- glass everywhere," Trudy told CTV News.

"Who would do this kind of thing?"

The mess was cleaned up and the window patched by the RCMP officer who responded to their call. But the incident has left the couple shaken and scared.

"I was really stunned," Trudy said. "I feel violated, that's all I can say. I feel violated by somebody intruding in my home, someone intruding into my space."

Although the damage to the property was minor, North Vancouver RCMP say they're on the case.

"These people no longer feel safe in their house, which isn't right," Cpl. Marlene Morton told CTV News.

"Whoever did this, do the right thing and come forward, and own up to what you've done."
