Police in Abbotsford, B.C., say they've shut down a sophisticated, multi-million dollar marijuana grow operation connected to organized crime in that Fraser Valley community.
Members of the Abborsford Drug Enforcement Unit and the Municipal Integrated Emergency Response Team found more than 6,500 marijuana plants in several buildings while executing a search warrant at a residence in the 6500-block of Riverside Street on Feb. 18.
Four 100 pound bags of marijuana were also removed from the main house, police say.
The haul was so large police needed two large trailers to transport the grow equipment form the site, Const. Ian MacDonald said.
"This very sophisticated… operation utilized three transformers, which were larger than those used on BC Hydro poles [and] over 300 high intensity discharge lights," MacDonald said in a statement.
Michael Owens, 43, and Katherine Essex, 36, are each charged with one count of marijuana production and trafficking.
