The RCMP say a large marijuana grow operation was discovered in a Surrey, B.C. house where a 27-year-old man was found dead in the backyard last Wednesday.

They say the Richmond man was known to them but they are not releasing his name at the request of his family.

More than 700 pot plants were found inside the home and police say they are still trying to find the occupants of the house but they say the dead man had no connection to the property.

The RCMP have not said how he died of if they have any suspects.

They are appealing to the man's friends to come forward with any information about his activities in the hours leading up to his death.
