Editor's note, Nov. 7, 2016: The fourth suspect has been arrested. Brittany Ulmer-Wightman, 23, has been charged with robbery, use of an imitation firearm in commission of offence, and sexual assault.
Three suspects have been arrested and one remains on the loose after a violent armed robbery of a Vancouver marijuana shop.
The Stressed and Depressed marijuana dispensary on East 41st Avenue was robbed on the night of Oct. 16 and the crime was caught on surveillance video.
A joint operation between the Vancouver and Delta police departments and Surrey RCMP led to the arrest of three males suspects on Saturday.
Police made the arrests after searching two homes in Surrey and one in Delta.
“There were items seized through these search warrants that connects our suspects to the robbery,” Const. Brian Montague said.
Darnel Matsui, 28, Hosea Smith, 26, and Cory Robert Ulmer Brown, 20, were all arrested and charged with robbery with violence. A fourth female suspect is still at large.
Matsui was also charged with pointing a firearm, uttering threats, using a firearm during the commission of an indictable offence and unauthorized possession of a firearm. Smith was also charged with assault and Brown was also charged with pointing a firearm, using a firearm during the commission of an indictable offence and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Matsui and Smith are from Alberta and Brown is from Surrey.
One staff member was assaulted during the incident and Montague called the robbery “a very traumatic, frightening incident for all of the staff involved.”
Although police did not intend to release the surveillance video to the media the recording led to many tips from the public.
Montague said it is unusual to see violent robberies like this in the city.
“We do get robberies in Vancouver, we often don’t see it to quite this level and often it’s not captured on video,” he said. “To have a gun shoved in your face, threatened to be killed or stabbed or shot and then punched is obviously very traumatic.”
One suspect will appear in court on Wednesday and two others will appear in court in November.
Anyone with information about the female suspect or the robbery is asked to call Vancouver police at 604-717-0613 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
