Missing from Tuesday's federal government's budget is how much money is being spent on security for the 2010 Olympics.
The issue has been a major sticking point between B.C. and Ottawa. The two levels of government have been negotiating for more than a year on how to split the costs of securing venues and keeping athletes safe.
But those figures won't be released until the government files a detailed tally of exactly how it's allocating tax dollars.
B.C. Finance Minister Colin Hansen says the actual dollar figure will be far higher than the true cost of Olympic security.
He says that's because the federal government is lumping entire budgets under the heading of the Olympics, rather than just focusing on the costs from the Games themselves.
B.C. is paying half the bill to secure venues and athletes but has been locked in negotiations with the federal government for over a year about the extent of those costs.
It's anticipated the overall security budget will be released in the coming weeks as B.C. needs to include the cost in its upcoming provincial budget.
