Six people managed to walk away from a plane crash southeast of Kelowna thanks to a quick-thinking pilot who put his plane into a nosedive.

Pilot Brent Miskuski and a group of friends were flying back to the Okanagan on Tuesday, after a weekend trip to the U.S., when the plane's fuel gauge started to fail.

As the two-engine aircraft headed over some mountainous terrain, both engines failed.

"All I could say was, 'Are you kidding me?' And the girls started screaming because we started dropping elevation," passenger Kelly Mulzet told CTV News.

Miskuski quickly looked around for a soft place to land, and spotted a Christmas tree farm located between Rock Creek and Beaverdell.

But the farm was coming up fast, so he decided to put the plane into a nose dive to get to the field.

"We looked like a big lawn dart," Miskuski said.

The plane clipped some power lines and had to avoid irrigation equipment, then crashed through a fence. Despite all the obstacles, Miskuski managed to guide the plane into the trees, where it came to a stop.

All six people walked away without injury.
