A gang of armed robbers rammed a truck into a jewelry store in South Vancouver Thursday afternoon and made off with bags of valuables.
Witnesses said the robbers were wearing ski masks and blue jumpsuits when they smashed their way into Bharti Art Jewellers on Main Street and 50th Avenue around 2:45 p.m.
“I was with my customer and I heard a bang, a big noise like a bomb,” said Naresh Shukla from the Mother India grocery store.
Two men, at least one of whom was carrying a gun, rushed in while a third waited in the truck, another store owner said.
The group then drove off, ditched the truck in an alley and fled in another vehicle. They left jewelry was strewn on the street after the brazen crime.
Bharti Art Jewellers store specializes in 22-karat gold. The owner was alone at the time of the robbery and left shaken up but uninjured, according to his brother.
