A 27-year-old Richmond man has been charged after allegedly stabbing his dog to death last year.

Mounties were called to Artyom Goncharuk’s home in mid-September and discovered the lifeless body of his three-year-old Pomeranian, Kaylly.

The case was turned over to the SPCA, which determined the dog had been stabbed a shocking 61 times.

“The necropsy results show that an extremely disturbing level of violence was inflicted on this poor dog,” SPCA chief enforcement officer Marcie Moriarty said in a statement.

Goncharuk was arrested last week and charged with animal cruelty.

If convicted, he could serve a maximum of five years in jail, a fine of up to $75,000 and a lifetime ban on owning animals.
