Power has been restored to most of the Lower Mainland homes that were left in the dark after a powerful wind storm sent trees crashing onto power lines Tuesday.

At the height of the storm, more than 10,000 BC Hydro customers throughout Vancouver, North Vancouver, Surrey, Maple Ridge, Mission and Abbotsford were without electricity.

Howling winds also caused outages to thousands more homes on Vancouver Island.

Though the lights are back on at the majority of residences, there’s still a lot of work to be done cleaning up felled trees.

Most of the damage caused by Tuesday’s storm was done in Maple Ridge, where one tree crashed right through the roof of a home, damaging the garage and nearly caving in the kitchen.

The homeowners told CTV News no one was injured.

Small pockets of homes on the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island remained without power Wednesday morning. For the latest updates on outages, visit the BC Hydro website.
