Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be making history in July when he becomes the first sitting PM to march in the Vancouver Pride Parade.

The announcement came Thursday morning, with tweets coming from both the PM and the Vancouver Pride Society.

The 38th annual parade will take place on July 31, and typically attracts around 500,000 spectators. This year’s theme is “better together.”

Trudeau also took part in the Vancouver event in 2014 and 2015. In February, he announced his participation in Toronto’s Pride Parade on July 3.

A spokeswoman in the PMO could not say if Sophie Gregoire Trudeau would accompany her husband in the Vancouver parade.
