Mounties descended on the parking lot of the Greater Vancouver Zoo in Langley Sunday night after a shooting that left one person injured.
The parking lot was cordoned off by police tape and officers could be seen sweeping the area.
Cpl. Holly Largy said police found a man suffering gunshot wounds after receiving a complaint of shots fired at the McDonalds/Otter Co-op Gas Bar on 56th Avenue around 7 p.m.
Police say they are dealing with two crime scenes but it's unclear where the actual shooting took place.
"The parking lot at the Greater Vancouver Zoo is definitely a location connected to this investigation," Largy said in a statement.
The victim was rushed to hospital but his injuries are not expected to be life-threatening. The victim is a 29-year-old Mission man who is known to police, and the incident is considered targeted.
Another man who was with the victim has provided information to assist in the investigation, RCMP said.
Largy said police are investigating whether the violence is linked to a homicide in a rural area of the Township of Langley, but officials later said that the incidents are not believed to be connected.
RCMP said an injured man was found on 72nd Avenue on Sunday morning, but he died a short time later.
Investigators say the injuries appear to be consistent with foul play.
