A 16-year-old high school student from Germany who was hit by a Jeep in North Vancouver, B.C., last weekend has died in hospital, authorities confirmed.

According to RCMP, the girl was struck near Capilano and Paisley roads around 5:30 p.m. Sunday. She succumbed to her injuries Friday morning.

In a letter sent to local host families, the North Vancouver School District identified the victim as Dali Zissu, an international student attending Handsworth Secondary.

It said students have been collecting memories and messages to send to Zissu’s family in Germany, and the district will continue accepting videos and photos.

“Dali brought so much light to the international student community, and we hope these activities will help honor her memory while providing comfort to those who are grieving,” the letter reads.

The district says counselling has been available for students and will be again after the winter break, but directed parents to other local services Foundry and GuardMe over the holidays.

Asked for an update on the investigation into the crash, the North Vancouver RCMP said it is still in the “earliest stages.”

Police asked anyone who witnessed the collision or has video to call 604-985-1311 and reference file number 24-25577.
