One person is dead following a head-on collision between a transit bus and a car in Surrey earlier today.
Surrey RCMP said the crash occurred at around 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning at 84th Avenue and King George Boulevard.
Police say the car was travelling northbound on King George Boulevard when it crossed the centre line and hit the southbound bus head-on. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
"It looks like the collision haoppened in the curb lane," Const. Mike Halskov of Surrey Traffic Services said, adding the bus driver was shaken up but uninjured.
There were two passengers on the bus who were taken to hospital for precautionary measures but released without injury, Halskov said.
Halskov said it is too early in the investigation to determine what casued the crash, but the roads were clear and dry at the time of the incident.
The deceased driver’s name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Surrey’s Criminal Collision Investigations Team is leading the investigation and is asking anyone with information to contact the detachment at 604-599-0502.
