A 17-year-old from Fort Langley, B.C., has beat out contestants from across the country to be crowned this year’s Miss Teen Canada.

Shalom Reimer won the prize Saturday night at a ceremony in Laval, Quebec.

Reimer says she will use the new title to be a “positive example” to others in the community.

The singer, dancer and aspiring model hosts weekly meetings in her school community to coach girls in grades 6 through 8 about “real-life issues,” like bullying, suicide and depression – and strategies to overcome them.

She was initially crowned Miss Teen B.C. this past summer.
