A former CEO who was caught on camera kicking a dog in downtown Vancouver last year has been handed a $5,000 fine.

Desmond Hague pleaded guilty earlier this year to one animal cruelty charge, and was sentenced Wednesday in Vancouver provincial court.

On top of the fine, Hague was given a three-year ban on owning or caring for animals.

Hague was the head of Centerplate Inc., a major catering company that services sports venues across North America, when surveillance video surfaced of him kicking a young Doberman pinscher in the elevator of a Vancouver hotel.

He later resigned from the company and issued a public apology.
