The family of Ovey Yeung is relieved to have her alive after she was nearly killed by a hit and run near Rogers Arena late at night August 4th.
Ovey had been in a medically induced coma at Vancouver General Hospital ever since the accident but in the last few days, she’s emerged from the coma but remains in intensive care.
“Just seeing her was a huge relief. We're so lucky she survived the accident,” said her sister Clara Yeung.
And while she remains in hospital while the driver who crashed into her remains at large and her family is upset that person has not taken responsibility for their actions.
Police have spoken to some witnesses, looked at security camera footage and believe it was a dark Honda Civic that hit Yeung.
"We're hoping anyone seeing this car, neighbours, witnesses of that night will step up and come forward, even if the driver would step forward,” said Clara.
But police have also identified a number of other commercial vehicles that were near the incident when it happened and are searching for the drivers to see if they saw anything.
Meanwhile, friends have raised more than $36,000 to help with Ovey’s recovery and the family is touched.
