VANCOUVER - The Emily Carr painting "Forest Light" has sold for 1.53-million dollars at an auction in Vancouver.
That far exceeded the pre-sale estimate of up to 600-thousand dollars placed on the work by the Heffel Fine Art Auction House.
A total of six Carr works sold last night for a total of 2.3-million dollars.
Three Quebec artists also featured prominently at the sale, all of them selling for well above their pre-auction estimates.
And a garage sale find -- B-C Binning's "Painted Structure in Space" -- sold for more than 26-thousand dollars.
That was far above the top-end pre-auction estimate of 15-thousand.
Tom Thomson's "Woods in Winter," which was expected to fetch as much as 350-thousand dollars, failed to sell because it did not meet its reserve price.
