An Edmonton man charged with second-degree murder in Alberta is now facing additional murder charges in an unrelated British Columbia shooting, police announced Monday.

Sean Jennings, 27, has been charged with the first-degree murder of Theoren Gregory Poitras, 23, in Richmond.

Police say Poitras was living in Richmond when he was found face down in a pool of blood on a field by R.C. Talmey Elementary School just after midnight on Oct. 2, 2014. He was reportedly known to police for gang activity in Alberta.

In early March, Jennings was charged with second-degree murder in the July 2014 shooting death of Alor Deng. Deng was shot during an argument between two groups who met late at night in Edmonton's popular Strathcona district.

The charges follow a lengthy investigation involving numerous law enforcement agencies in both B.C. and Alberta. A series of murders, attempted murders, and violent home invasions involving the torture and mutilation of victims in both Edmonton and the Lower Mainland prompted the investigation, police say.

More than 50 criminal charges have been laid against two individuals, and police expect others will be charged in coming weeks.
