An Alberta man is facing charges after police say they caught him driving more than 100 km/h over the speed limit on an Okanagan highway.

Kelowna RCMP said the driver was caught as he passed through a speed trap along Highway 97, in the small community of Lake Country on Saturday.

A white 2010 Audi R8 was pulled over after an officer determined the vehicle was traveling more than 210 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

"Weather and roadway conditions were not ideal at the time of the traffic stop, as it was raining lightly and the roads were wet," RCMP said in a statement issued Monday.

Police said the driver, who has not been publicly identified, was charged for excessive speed and given a $483 ticket. His vehicle was towed from the scene and will be impounded for a week.

The police statement contained a warning for drivers to slow down, especially on wet roads.

"High-risk behaviours, like speeding, increase your chases of crashing and put yourself and others at risk of sustaining serious injury," Const. Jesse O'Donaghey said.
