The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called to a fatal shooting outside an elementary school in Richmond.
Emergency crews found an unresponsive man lying in a park at R.C. Talmey Elementary School on Kilby Drive just after midnight on Thursday morning.
He died at the scene, despite paramedics’ efforts to revive him.
IHIT Staff Sgt. Jennifer Pound said investigators were still working with Richmond RCMP to gather evidence Thursday afternoon, and that the motive remains a mystery.
“What we can say at this point is that this does appear to be a targeted homicide,” Pound said in a statement.
The deceased has been identified, but his name is being withheld until police can notify his family.
No arrests have been made and it’s not clear if any suspects have been identified.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
