The BC Coroners Service had identified the two pilots killed after a cargo plane crashed onto the North Shore Mountains this week.

Pilot Robert Brandt, 34, and co-pilot Kevin Wang, 32, had their lives tragically cut short Monday when the Swearingen SA 226 aircraft suddenly plummeted into a heavily wooded area near Crown Mountain.

The men, who are both residents of the Vancouver area, were the only people on board.

The coroner said their families have asked for privacy, but their employers at Carson Air issued a statement this week describing the men as respected professionals in their field.

Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board are still working to determine the cause of the crash. The plane wasn’t equipped with a flight data recording system, and there was no distress call issued.

Authorities said the aircraft simply vanished from radar over the North Shore about 20 minutes after taking off from Vancouver International Airport.

Bill Yearwood, TSB regional manager of aviation, said he isn’t aware of any previous investigations or serious incidents involving Carson Air.

The investigation into Monday’s crash could take as long as a year to complete, he added.

The BC Coroners Service’s investigation is also still ongoing.
