A suspect has been charged in connection with a hostage situation at a 7-Eleven convenience store in downtown Vancouver.
Police say Koyes Ahmad, 37, has been charged with unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
On Wednesday, a man walked into the 7-Eleven at Granville and Drake streets, threatened a female employee with a knife and doused her with lighter fluid.
He then took her to the back room of the store and barricaded them inside until an Emergency Response Team arrived and convinced him to surrender, according to police.
The employee was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities believe the victim and suspect know each other, but the extent of their relationship is unknown.
Ahmad remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
