Family members and friends of two people who died earlier this month say the murder victims were both parents of young children, and taken too soon.

Officers were called to a home on Dieppe Drive in Vancouver on Sept. 18, where 24-year-old Xuan Vanvy Ba-Cao and 29-year-old Samantha Le were found dead.

A four-year-old child, who family members say was Ba-Cao's son, was found terrified but unharmed in the home. A third adult was abducted from the home, police said, but was rescued the next day during a takedown of three suspects in New Westminster.

Three men were taken into custody and charged with the abduction, but no charges have been laid in the murders.

Online fundraisers have been set up on GoFundMe for both Le and Ba-Cao, who each had their own child.

The page set up by Le's sister said the victim "wasn't prepared" for her death.

"She thought she had decades of living left. She thought she would see her daughter grow up. She thought she had time to prepare for the future," Minh Le wrote.

The page says Le was close with her family, speaking almost daily though the sisters live on different coasts.

"We rooted for each other, we helped each other. We loved each other," the page reads.

Ba-Cao's fundraising page describes the man in his early 20s as a loving son and loving father.

"Never ever would we have imagined for this to happen at such a young age….nothing in life ever prepares you to hear that someone else has brutally taken away someone you love," page creator Thi Le wrote.

The page describes his family as "amazing and kind people" who have always put others before themselves.

"In this moment of hardship, we kindly ask to help them during their time of need," it says.

It describes Ba-Cao as an "amazing friend," and someone who would say "something completely stupid" just to make a friend or loved one smile.

"Vanvy is loved and will always be loved and remembered," it says.

Both pages say that any money raised by donations will go toward the victims' funeral costs and to help their children. They both have a goal of $100,000, with more than $22,000 raised for Le's family and nearly $9,000 for Ba-Cao's at time of publication.

Their murders are still under investigation, and officers ask anyone with more information to contact them.

The provincial police watchdog is also investigating the case, called in because a police dog bit an innocent man during a takedown of the kidnapping suspects. Witnesses of that incident are asked to contact the Independent Investigations Office.
