Marcus Haber is a Whitecap no more, as the slick and skilful Vancouver striker is taking his goal-scoring services overseas.
The Vancouver Whitecaps announced Tuesday that the club has reached a transfer agreement for Haber with the English Football League Championship club West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed amount.
Haber who turns 21 on January 11 had a four-day trial with the Baggies in November and did enough to impress West Brom's manager Roberto Di Matteo to pursue the gifted striker once the international transfer window opened.
In his 2009 rookie season with the Whitecaps, Haber scored eight goals and recorded four assists for 20 points in 30 United Soccer League First Division contests. Haber would also score three more markers in six USL-1 playoff contests. Haber's regular season numbers did enough for him to be named the USL-1 Rookie of the Year.
This will not be Haber's first experience of playing European football as the Vancouverite played two seasons with Dutch club FC Groningen before joining the Whitecaps.
Haber has represented Canada internationally on three different levels. At the Under-17 and Under-20 levels and he also played on the Under-23 Canadian side that tried to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
According to SkySports.com Haber is now travelling to England to discuss personal contract terms and undergo a medical.
