The Vancouver Whitecaps announced Tuesday they have re-signed their most valuable player Jay Nolly to a new one-year contract, plus an option.

Nolly and the Whitecaps will play this upcoming season in the brand new North American Soccer League. In 2011, Nolly's option year, the Whitecaps are set to shift up from the NASL to Major League Soccer.

The goalkeeper will be entering his third year with the Whitecaps. In his first two seasons with the club the 27-year-old, from Littleton, Colorado, has amassed a record of 31 wins, 21 losses and 18 draws in 71 appearances.

Nolly was named the Whitecaps Most Valuable Player this past season for his stellar play. He backstopped the team to their second consecutive United Soccer League First Division championship appearance, where the Whitecaps would eventually come up short in the two-leg final to the Montreal Impact.

He played every minute of his club's 40 USL-1 and Nutrilite Canadian Championship matches in 2009. His 3,600 consecutive minutes in goal made him the first Whitecaps goalkeeper to play every single minute in a single season since Arnie Mausser achieved the feat in 1977.

Nolly put together a record of 16 wins, 13 losses and 11 draws in 2009, collecting 12 shutouts and a goals-against-average of 1.18.

Nolly joined the Whitecaps prior to the start of the 2008 season. In his first year with the 'Caps, Nolly recorded 11 shutouts in 31 appearances on his way to being named the 2008 Whitecaps Defender of the Year. Nolly was also instrumental in leading the first division team to their second USL Championship title in three seasons.

Prior to joining the Whitecaps, the six-foot-three, 205-pound keeper spent three years in Major League Soccer with Real Salt Lake and D.C. United after being selected in the second round (22nd overall) of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft by RSL.

Nolly also had success at the college level as well. At Indiana University, he helped lead Indiana to back-to-back NCAA Division 1 championship titles in 2003 and 2004.
