FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Marlon James missed on a second-half penalty shot and the Vancouver Whitecaps had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Miami FC in USSF Second Division play Saturday.

James drew a late challenge from Miami defender Martyn Lancaster in the box, setting up the penalty.

But the Whitecaps forward failed to score after Miami FC goalkeeper Caleb Patterson-Sewell dove to his right to make the save.

"I think it was two points lost by us tonight," said Whitecaps coach Teitur Thordarson.

"I think we had the much better chances on goal, even if (Whitecaps keeper Jay Nolly) had to make some saves in the first half. I felt we started the game well, but then we gave away the initiative a little bit and let Miami back into the game before halftime."
