A young man has turned himself in to police after gaining notoriety in widely publicized photos allegedly showing him trying to light a police car on fire during the Vancouver Stanley Cup riot.
A lawyer for the 17-year-old water polo player says the boy is cooperating with police. He has also made a televised apology.
The young man can be seen in photographs apparently holding a flaming shirt to the gas tank of a police car during the chaos on Wednesday night. The pictures were posted to Facebook, and within a day, users had identified him.
The star player was named MVP of his high school team and was about to get a full university scholarship.
Water Polo Canada has issued a provisional suspension against a young member of its Junior Men's National Team, though the team did not identify the young man.
