Thousands of people turned out in dreary weather to attend British Columbia's largest Remembrance Day ceremonies in Vancouver and Victoria Tuesday.

In Vancouver, a crowd at the Cenotaph in Victory Square huddled under a sea of umbrellas in steady rain.

People were luckier in Victoria, where the rain held off as thousands gathered near the war memorial outside the legislature.

Each service featured prayers, the last post, two minutes of silence and the laying of wreaths by various dignitaries, including Premier Gordon Campbell.

In Vancouver, Catherine Chan of the Little Flower Academy read a Remembrance Day poem she wrote.

The poem read, in part: "Today we stand together, a sea of red, as we wear those little poppies, to remember the dead."
