Two women are dead, and several others were injured, after a truck crashed into a sushi restaurant in Maple Ridge, Thursday evening.
The incident happened at Westgate Mall, at 203rd street and Lougheed Highway, at around 6:00 p.m., Thursday, prompting emergency response crews to close the surrounding area to traffic.
Ridge Meadows RCMP confirm two females inside the restaurant are dead, and three other people were taken to Royal Columbian Hospital in critical condition..
When he spoke to reporters, Cpl. Mike McCauley of Richmond RCMP wouldn't speculate on why the car smashed through a wall at the Halu Sushi restaurant.
While the investigation into the crash continues, Police have the 51-year-old Maple Ridge male driver of the vehicle in custody.
