The TV production company for a trivia show that's filmed inside a fake taxi has offered condolences after its vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian late Friday in Vancouver.
The team with Cash Cab sends out thoughts and prayers to the 61-year-old victim from Surrey, B.C. and his family, said Andrew Burnstein, president of Castlewood Productions Inc.
"My heart also goes out to the driver of the vehicle, a member of our technical staff, who is shaken and devastated by this tragic accident, as is our entire team," Burnstein said Saturday in an email statement.
Vancouver police said the unidentified man died of injuries suffered when he was struck just before midnight in the city's Downtown Eastside.
Const. Lindsey Houghton added that while charges haven't been laid, the factors leading to the collision are still being determined.
According to Burnstein, the incident happened as a producer drove the mock cab back to a storage facility after filming.
In the game show, unsuspecting people who flagged the cab become instant contestants and are asked a series of science-themed questions for prizes. The show runs on the Discovery Channel.
Meantime, a 34-year-old Vancouver woman was rushed to hospital after a hit-and-run collision just after midnight in the city's south end.
Houghton said the injured woman lay in the road until an ambulance arrived. Police are searching for a 2003 to 2007 dark-coloured Nissan Murano with front-end damage that includes a broken headlight.
