Emergency crews descended on a mall parking lot in Saanich, B.C. Thursday afternoon after a toddler was found locked in a sweltering car alone.
A concerned citizen noticed the boy, believed to be two or three years old, inside a car in the University Heights Shopping Centre at around 3:30 p.m.
After waiting about five minutes for the child's caretaker, the onlooker called 911.
The dispatcher advised the caller to reach inside a window that was cracked open, unlock the door and remove the child.
Police say the little boy was drenched in sweat. He was taken to the shade to cool off, and given a juice box to replenish his fluids.
The boy was in the care of his aunt at the time, police say. The woman, who had apparently gone shopping and decided to leave the toddler in the car, was let off with a warning.
