Police on Vancouver Island busted two men and one woman for allegedly street racing on Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses reported seeing three high-end sports cars darting down Willis Point Road and performing stunts.

When police arrived, one driver told police they were testing out the roadway.

The drivers, who police say are all in their 20s, had their licenses suspended for 15 days. Their cars, all 2010 Hyundais, were impounded for two days.

Illegal racing is extremely dangerous, Sgt. Paul Lamoureux said, and racers often over overestimate their ability to handle unexpected surprises.

"These accidents happen so quickly they can't respond," he said.

Lamoureux said street racing deaths are the result of drivers' "ignorance, their bravado, their egos, and their inability to realize just how dangerous it is."
