A Surrey, B.C., teenager has been identified as Metro Vancouver's latest shooting victim.

Police say Adem Aliu, 17, was found suffering a gun shot wound after responding to a call at 103 Avenue and 142 Street in the Whalley area around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Aliu died at the scene from his injuries.

Friends are in disbelief. They say Aliu had come to Canada from Albania about three years ago and lived with an uncle. He attended Guildford Learning Centre.

"He was really a nice guy. He was the nicest person I've ever known," his best friend Ernest Grundza told CTV News.

The case has been turned over to the B.C. Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Peter Thiessen said there were several witnesses at the scene and they are cooperating with police.

Witnesses told CTV News they heard an argument and the sound of running before shots were fired.

It is not known if the incident is targeted or random. Police say it doesn't look like the incident was drug or gang-related.

This is the second shooting in as many days in Metro Vancouver.

On Monday morning, 31-year-old Harchie Onas was discovered shot to death outside his family's home on Boundary Road in Burnaby. Police have no suspects in custody. Onas is well known to police.
