Mounties have arrested a suspect following an overnight house fire in Richmond that left a woman dead and a teenager clinging to life in hospital.

Police and firefighters were called to the home on Cornerbrook Crescent shortly after 2 a.m. Monday and found it fully engulfed in flames.

A 65-year-old woman, who has been identified as Elaine Leznoff, was found dead inside, and a 13-year-old boy was rushed to hospital with critical injuries.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called to probe the blaze, and announced Monday afternoon that a suspect has been taken into custody.

IHIT said the cause of the fire is still being confirmed, and investigators expect to remain at the scene for “an extended period of time.”
