A 29-year-old man who went missing while snowboarding on Whistler Tuesday evening has been found dead.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair said the snowboarder, whose name hasn’t been released, was out with a group of friends who decided to split up around 2 p.m.
“He failed to show up at the bottom of a lift,” LeClair said. “His friends waited for him a while, looked for him in the village, and eventually reported him missing to ski patrol.”
A ground and air search was launched Wednesday morning, and crews found the snowboarder in a forested in-bounds area of the Harmony Bowl around 11:30 a.m.
He showed no signs of life, said LeClair.
"Rescuers began CPR and a doctor attended the scene. Despite the efforts all involved, the male succumbed to his injuries," he said.
He was wearing a helmet.
The man’s name hasn’t been released, but the RCMP confirmed he was visiting B.C. from Ontario.
“The family has been notified,” LeClair said. “They’ll be making arrangements to have him repatriated.”
Whistler Blackcomb offered its condolences to the deceased’s family and friends, and reminded skiers and snowboarders to be cautious, stay with a partner, and not ride in terrain that exceeds their skill level.
