Vancouver police have released an update on the case of a murdered woman who was found floating in the Fraser River in south Vancouver on Thursday evening.
The victim is a 41-year-old sex trader worker, who was living in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).
The VPD received a missing persons report on July 17th from staff at the building where the woman lived after she failed to return home for several days.
She is the city's 15th homicide victim this year.
Police say her name is being withheld as efforts to locate next of kin continue.
Investigators believe the woman was last seen on July 10th. Subsequent police checks of area hospitals, social services agencies, and the surrounding neighbourhood failed turn up any sign of the woman.
Her body was then discovered on Thursday evening by a man walking along the shore of the Fraser River near the 9100 block of Bentley Street.
Investigators are working to put together a timeline around the woman's disappearance and are appealing to anyone with information to contact the VPD Major Crime Homicide Section at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers.
