Vancouver Canuck stars Daniel and Henrik Sedin have donated $1.5 million to help build a new BC Children's Hospital.

The twins, who have lived in Vancouver for a decade, made their gift with their wives to support an intensive care unit and diagnostic imaging area in the new facility.

In a statement released by the hospital, the brothers say they feel honoured and privileged to live in the city and wanted to give something back to the community.

"Every time Daniel and I visit BC Children's Hospital we meet kids and their parents who come from all over BC. This is our way of saying thank you to British Columbians for all the support we've received since we joined the Canucks," said Henrik Sedin.

Campaign chairman Don Lindsay says the foundation is delighted with the gift. He says the brothers have supported the facility for many years through visits and television appearances.

The BC Children's Hospital Foundation's $200-million Campaign for BC Children passed the halfway mark in December.

The facility is B.C.'s only full service acute care hospital. It serves more than one million children living in British Columbia and the Yukon.
