The RCMP say they were unable to respond immediately when a 19-year-old man lost in the woods near Williams Lake in sub-zero temperatures called 911 for help early New Years Day.

Matt Armstrong ended up making four calls for help after he wandered away from a New Year's party about 3 a.m., and it wasn't until 10 hours later that he was found dead.

Police say they couldn't launch an immediate search because they were busy with other calls, including a stabbing and an assault.

The Mounties also say they couldn't trace his cellphone location and couldn't use a helicopter because of poor weather.
