Police seek witnesses to Burnaby hit-and-run
Mounties in Burnaby are appealing for the public’s help to identify a driver who struck a pedestrian and fled the scene last week.
The vehicle struck the pedestrian at Canada Way and Burris Street around 6:45 a.m. last Wednesday, Dec. 11, according to police.
“The victim was crossing the street when a vehicle turning left onto Canada Way eastbound failed to yield and struck the victim,” a Monday news release from the Burnaby RCMP reads. “The driver did not remain on scene.”
The pedestrian—a 64-year-old-woman—suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries, the detachment said.
Police say they have dash camera video showing the crash, but haven’t been able to identify the vehicle or its driver, and are asking anyone with information to call the detachment.
Mounties are also looking to contact to the driver of a white pickup truck that went through the intersection right before the crash, travelling north on Burris Street.
“If this pickup truck has dashcam video, we believe it may have captured a clearer image of the suspect vehicle and we would like to speak to the driver,” Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in the release.
Anyone with video or information that could help with the investigation is asked to call 604-646-9999.
