Mounties are investigating after several poppy fund collections boxes were stolen from local businesses in Chilliwack.
Police said six collection boxes were stolen from businesses along Vedder Road in the last week.
Members of the Royal Canadian Legion noticed the boxes were missing when they went to collect the money Tuesday.
"It's pretty disturbing," said Cst. Tracy Wolbeck. "The motivation behind crimes like this is just pure greed. Our veterans have played such an integral role for Canadians and it's really upsetting to have to report on a crime like this."
The 11-day poppy fundraiser makes around $20,000 to help local Chilliwack veterans.
Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604 792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
