The 38-year-old woman who was gunned down in front of her young son in southeast Vancouver Wednesday afternoon has been identified as Thuy Yen "Jenny" Vu.

Police say the Vancouver resident was sitting in her parked car in the 6400-block of Bruce Street with her three-year-old child in the back seat when she was killed.

Const. Lindsey Houghton said the boy was not physically harmed.

No arrests have been made, but Vancouver Police Department homicide detectives continued interviewing witnesses Thursday in hopes of obtaining a suspect description.

Police say Vu, a mother-of-four, was not known to police and they have yet to establish a motive in the shooting.

Her husband is not considered a suspect. Family members say Vu had been married twice before, and used to work as a hairdresser.

Her death marks Vancouver's 14th homicide of 2011.

The shooting occurred less than 24 hours after a 30-year-old man, who is known to police, was apparently targeted by a gunman in a Tim Hortons in downtown Vancouver. The victim was hit multiple times; his name has not been released.

No suspects have been identified in either incident.

Anyone with information on Vu's death is asked to call the VPD Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if they wish to remain anonymous.
