Update: The young woman seen carrying a kitten on her shoulder after the animal was allegedly stolen from inside a Value Village in Langley has been identified, RCMP confirmed Tuesday morning.

Mounties say they will be speaking with the young woman in the near future.

Previous story: Mounties are hoping to speak with a young woman who was seen carrying a kitten on her shoulder after the animal was allegedly stolen from inside a Value Village in Langley.

According to the RCMP, someone walked into the thrift store with a carrier containing three kittens on Oct. 24 and then put it down to do some shopping.

“When she returned to the cage one of the kittens was missing,” Cpl. Holly Largy said. “Somebody would have had to go open the cage and take it out.”

Investigators have learned that staff found a young woman carrying a kitten, and that she left after being told pets aren’t permitted in the store.

Police are now trying to identify a person of interest who was captured on surveillance cameras carrying a kitten on her shoulder onto a bus after the theft.

“We’re hoping to touch base with her to further the investigation,” Largy said.

The young woman is described as white with dark hair, and she was seen wearing light orange-coloured boots and black leggings.

Anyone with information on her identity is asked to contact the Langley RCMP detachment.
