One person is dead after a raft overturned on the Kicking Horse River near Golden, B.C. Saturday afternoon.

The victim was a passenger of a boat belonging to the Glacier Raft Company Limited.

Keith David, a spokesperson for the company, said the raft was one of five that were maneuvering a rapid in the middle canyon section of the river at about 3 p.m. local time. Each raft carried eight passengers plus one guide.

David said the victim was unresponsive when retrieved from the water. Despite resuscitation attempts by the guide, the person could not be revived.

Glacier Raft Company Limited has been operating for more than 30 years and carries between 2,000 to 3,000 passengers a year through rivers around Golden.
