There were more people and their four-legged friends than usual at the B.C. SPCA's Paws for a Cause fundraising event Sunday -- meaning hundreds of thousands of dollars will be raised for animals in need.
With online fundraising 30 per cent higher than previous years, the organization is on track to its $850,000 fundraising target, said Craig Daniell, the CEO of the B.C. SPCA.
"Today's turnout has just blown us away," said Daniell.
"We've got a lofty target this year, and this might help us achieve our target," he said.
The largest campaign in support of animals in B.C., Paws for a Cause raises money that supports the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' core operations.
Walks were held in 37 communities across B.C., including in Vancouver, where pet owners gathered in Vanier Park in Kitsilano to walk 2.5 km.
Money goes towards activities including to spay or neuter an animal, veterinary care, and paying investigators to look into cases of animal cruelty, said Daniell.
Dog-walkers said they came out to the fundraiser because they love their animals.
"It's all for the pooches," one participant said.
