Just a day after Martin Brodeur set the NHL record for career shutouts and strengthened his pitch as Canada's starting goalie for the 2010 Winter Olympics, the pressure is on Roberto Luongo to come up with a gem of his own when the Vancouver Canucks host the Nashville Predators at GM Place.

Luongo, a virtual lock to be named one of Canada's three goaltenders next Wednesday, is vying for the starter's job with less than two months to go before the start of the Games.

Brodeur, a 16-year NHL veteran who led Canada to gold in Salt Lake City in 2002, will be tough to overlook with another NHL record under his belt and his New Jersey Devils leading the NHL standings with 53 points.

Meanwhile, Luongo's Canucks have fallen to 4-2 on a season-high, eight-game homestand after beginning the residency with three straight wins. The Canucks lost for the second time in three games on Sunday, as they dropped a 3-1 decision to St. Louis, which received a pair of goals from David Backes. Luongo made 23 saves in defeat.

Overall, Vancouver, which is currently 10th in the Western Conference standings, has a 14-6-0 record as the host this season. The Canucks will complete the homestand Saturday against the rival Edmonton Oilers.

Nashville earned a 4-2 home win over the Canucks on December 8, but Vancouver still has seven victories in the last 10 meetings. The Predators have dropped three of their last five at GM Place, but they also have four wins in seven trips to British Columbia.

The Predators earned their fourth win in a row Saturday in Calgary after beginning a three-game tour of western Canada with Thursday's 6-3 triumph in Edmonton.

Nashville, which is two points behind Chicago for the Central Division lead, has won six out of seven and is 15-3-2 over its last 20 outings.

The Predators posted a 5-3 decision over the Flames this weekend as Martin Erat and Marcel Goc each had a goal and two assists to lead the way in the victory at the Saddledome.

Nashville forward Jason Arnott missed Saturday's game with an upper-body injury. Arnott, who has 11 goals and 11 assists this year, is considered questionable for tonight's test.

The Predators are 10-5-2 as the visiting team this year and have won four straight and six of their last seven road games. Next up for Nashville is this weekend's home-and-home series against Chicago.
